Description

La vraie nature des mauvaises herbes (The true nature of weeds) introduces us to 15 wild plants that have been unfairly labelled as weeds. The book is in two parts: 1. a discovery guide, packed with information on these plants: - their life cycle and anatomy - their winning strategies - their history and geographical origins - their uses: edibility and medicinal aspects - beliefs and anecdotes about them 2. a botanical notebook that suggests how to: - make your own herbarium - prepare culinary recipes and medicinal potions - do activities linked to French, math, English and art - question adults The true nature of weeds is aimed at : - children aged 9 to 12, at school or at home - primary school teachers - parents - grandparents Anyone who enjoys being active in nature, very close to home or school, alone or in a group. Its originality lies in the fact that it : - develops a keen sense of environmental protection; - creates links with certain ways of life of the First Peoples; - forces us to reflect on why we classify plants, and even humans, as good or bad. This book is a complementary tool for elementary school, and a practical guide for parents and grandparents who want to tame nature as a family. Author ROGER LARIVIERE is a retired biologist who has been fascinated by all aspects of nature since childhood. In 2013, he published a book on the uses of plants by First Peoples, written in collaboration with the Algonquin community of Pikogan, near Amos in Abitibi, and a second book in 2015: Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Boreal Forest. He is also a lecturer and trainer.
