Description

Available only in French Over the years, Le grand livre des champignons du Québec et de l'est du Canada has become the reference book par excellence. It is a true bible that will satisfy both the beginner looking for edible species that are easy to recognize and the experienced mycologist who wants to go further in his research. It has been redesigned to present more than 1,200 species of mushrooms with many new photos, but above all with a new classification that makes it easy to consult. This division of species into 22 groups according to common characteristics visible to the naked eye has already been successfully adopted by many circles of mycologists here and elsewhere. The book opens with a practical visual key to the main genera of mushrooms treated, then focuses on history, classification, determination, harvesting and consumption. Each mushroom is then the subject of a complete card describing macroscopic (cap, lamellae, stem, color and flavor of the flesh) and microscopic characters, habitat, period of occurrence, abundance and edibility. A tireless researcher, Raymond McNeil has dedicated his life to increasing knowledge of the natural world around us, influencing the work of generations of biologists and managers in America. Author of nearly 150 publications in specialized journals, he was Director of the Centre de recherches écologiques de Montréal (CREM) and then Director of the Department of Biological Sciences at the Université de Montréal for several years. Now retired with the status of professor emeritus, he has devoted himself to a long-time passion, mycology. This book is the result of more than forty years of observation and involvement, among others, in the board of directors of the Cercle des mycologues de Montréal, of which he was president. It is without a doubt an invaluable heritage for future generations.
