Search guidance on the Barryvox® combines an easily read backlit display, clear instructions and an intuitive visual interface that covers every search phase and provides an overview of multiple buried victims. Even polarized glasses do not prevent the screen from being very easy to read. Acoustic guidance uses a sequence of tones to direct you toward the buried victim while letting you keep your eyes on the avalanche field; a backtracking function helps prevent 180-degree search errors. Reduced to the essentials, this three-antenna digital device pairs simple navigation and intuitive operation with powerful performance and sophisticated guidance without unnecessary complexity. Its broad reception bandwidth supports an effective digital search strip width of 70 mètres and a digital reception range of 70 mètres, with a circular reception field providing nearly identical range on the X and Y antennas. For quick, easy group checks, it verifies the transmission frequency and power of other avalanche transceivers to help ensure proper operation. Automatic self-testing checks the transmission and search signal at startup, followed by regular transmission and battery tests. The function labelled “automatic switching from transmit to search (Auto Revert)” is described as switching the device to TRANSMIT mode when a rescuer remains motionless for 4 minutes, assuming a second avalanche, with control provided by a motion sensor. The ergonomic housing resists impacts and breakage and is also described as unbreakable, while its buttons can be operated with gloves. Included with the device, the Barryvox carrying system offers secure, comfortable wear on the upper body. W-Link supplies an additional communication channel to improve search performance and enables fleet management. The software can be updated, and the operating temperature is -25 to +45 C (-13 to +113 F).
