A slightly wider-than-normal footprint and medium flex define the Sky Pilot, while K2’s 3DContour lifts the snow contact points at the nose and tail to encourage pivoting in deeper snow. The spoon-shaped nose and tail work with a new carbon Y-beam that brings pop and stability to the tail and channels energy to the nose contact points, delivering stability and edge pressure without unnecessary torsional stiffness. Behind this design is Sage Kotsenburg’s collaboration with K2’s product design and engineering team: he wanted a snowboard for technical, wooded and soft terrain, with a tail that could pivot and release freely to follow the terrain’s natural contours. Development began with prototype no. 1 in very expensive computer software; changes to the shapes, trials of different fiberglass layers and adjustments to carbon additives established the balance from which the team refined the board. With the belief that everyone should be able to experience the wonders of the mountains, the Sky Pilot was designed for all genders, with sizes, flex profiles and waist widths suited to smaller feet. It is available in “pointure 148 et 163”. For the best experience with VolumeShift™, go 3 to 5 cm shorter than your usual snowboard length.
